Sobermate 5 FAQS
How do I take a test with the Sobermate S5?
Insert a mouthpiece, then press the power button. The device warms up and counts down. When the countdown reaches 0, it double beeps and shows “START”. Take a deep breath and blow slowly and steadily into the mouthpiece. Only stop when you hear the double beep again. Your estimated BAC shows after a few seconds and stays on screen for several seconds.
How long should I wait after eating, drinking or smoking before I test?
Wait at least 30 minutes. Alcohol left in your mouth, including from alcohol-based mouthwash, can affect the result and takes about 30 minutes to clear.
How do I view my previous results?
The S5 stores your last 10 results. Press the memory button (M) while the device is counting down, then press M again to step through older results. Each result shows when the test was taken, followed by the result. A time like -023 means 23 minutes ago. “d001” means 1 day ago.
What happens when the memory is full?
The S5 deletes the oldest result and replaces it with the newest one.
Can I use the S5 result to decide whether I’m fit to drive?
No. The S5 gives an indication of alcohol on your breath, not an accurate measure of your blood alcohol level. Only a blood test can measure that. The Australian limit for an adult licence is 0.05%, but some drivers have lower limits, so check with your local transport authority. The safest level when driving is none at all, and if you’re in doubt, don’t drink and drive.
Why should I test again if my result is close to my limit?
Your blood alcohol level can keep rising for up to 2 hours after you stop drinking. If your result is close to your limit, wait 30 minutes and test again. It can also take 10 hours or more to return to zero after a high reading, so test again later in the day or the next morning.
Is the S5 covered by a warranty?
Yes, it has a 1 year warranty from the date of purchase against defects in workmanship or parts. Keep your receipt as proof of purchase. You can also register your device at my.andatech.com.au to activate your warranty and get calibration reminders.
